ARTIST BREAKDOWN

Charles Freeman

Charles Freeman is Ed Sheeran meets Sampha. The melodic crooner, hailing from Toronto, is a multi-hyphenate singer/songwriter specializing in Urban Contemporary compositions with heavy influences of pop and alternative instrumentation. With a voice that will cut open your soul, Charles Freeman engulfs the clever wordplay of his lyrics through his renowned unmistakable vocal and aching falsetto that’s both raw and delicate yet, emotionally, enormous in scope. The potency of that voice is generating a wave of in-demand producers and songwriters alike, currently tapping him to sing on a variety of projects. In all, there are two different polarizing energies at play in Charles’ music. On one hand, he reflects an outward- looking spirit as a prolific collaborator lending his vocal and production talents to a variety of artists working in pop, urban and R&B music today. On the other, his solo work is incredibly introspective with a strong sense of total creative control.

Most recently releasing his debut EP, “ANGEL" (released June 16th) which appeared on: TIDAL's TIDAL Rising and R&B WW as well as features the single "SUMMERLAND" which was playlisted on Spotify's New Music Friday Canada as well as Spotify's Canadian Pop playlist. The track ended up peaking at #20 on the Viral Hits Canada charts! His versatility as an artist are reflections of his musical influences including: Ray Charles, James Brown, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, John Mayer, James Bay and Andrea Bocelli. The inspiration of each of his influences can be felt in the structure of his compositions, blending with the cultural archive Charles has encountered from his surroundings—which has made him tri-lingual in English, Spanish and French respectively.
